Social Management as an Epistemological Paradigm and Emancipatory Praxis: A Critical Review

The text presents a detailed review of the third edition of the work Gestão Social: Epistemologia de um Paradigma (Social Management: Epistemology of a Paradigm), by Cançado, Tenório, and Pereira. It examines social management as an autonomous scientific field that prioritizes collective decision-making, dialogicity, and human emancipation in opposition to a purely mercantilist logic. The authors explore the theoretical foundations of the sector, situating it within the paradigm of radical humanism and establishing criteria that distinguish it from traditional strategic administration. The analysis highlights central categories such as the common good, the public sphere, and substantive rationality, which are fundamental for democratic management. Finally, the content proposes a research agenda focused on the decolonization of administrative thought and the strengthening of participatory practices in Brazilian society.
