Author Guidelines

Submissions

Papers must not exceed 25 pages, including the title, abstract (in Spanish, English, and Portuguese), body, graphics, images, and bibliographic references.

Papers in Spanish, English, and Portuguese are accepted.

Online Submissions

To submit their work in digital format for evaluation, researchers must register on the journal's website. After submitting a paper to the journal's platform, they must notify the editor of Fundamentos via email.

Fundamentos accepts the following types of work:

  • Articles: Unpublished research that is original in the field of economic sciences. These should stand out for their methodological and technical rigor, as well as for stimulating critical reflections on a study topic.

  • Essays: Writings that express an idea or opinion of the authors on a specific topic, issue, approach, or reality subject to problematization by economic sciences. The main goal is to express the author's point of view on the identified theoretical, empirical, and methodological issues.

  • In memoriam: Tribute writings for the passing of notable researchers whose contributions have been made in the field of economic sciences. This section serves as a space for recognizing local and international social scientists.

  • Reviews: A critical analysis of a recently published work. The works reviewed should be those expected to stimulate disciplinary debates.

Fundamentos accepts original and unpublished works in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. All manuscripts must be prepared using a word processor such as Word, Open Word, or compatible software. The page size should be A4 (29.7 x 21 cm), in portrait orientation, with 3 cm margins on the left and right and 2.5 cm margins at the top and bottom. The font should be Times New Roman, size 12, with double spacing. Lines must be numbered continuously from the first page of the manuscript. Pages should be numbered consecutively at the bottom center.

All submissions will be evaluated by an editor to determine if they meet the journal's objectives and scope. Those deemed suitable will be sent for peer review before a decision is made on acceptance or rejection.

Before submitting, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included in their submission, such as photos, documents, and datasets. At this stage, plagiarism detection is carried out (using digital tools and specialized open-access software). Any article found to have similarities with another published work, i.e., plagiarism, will be returned to the authors and excluded from publication. Once this stage is successfully passed, the article is sent to two external reviewers under a double-blind system. All authors identified in the submission must consent to being identified as such. When applicable, the research must be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may reject a submission if it does not meet minimum quality standards. Before submitting, ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated correctly. The title should be concise, and the abstract should stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers accepting the article for review. Once you are confident that your submission meets these standards, proceed to the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Cover Page

To ensure anonymous review, the cover page must be submitted as a separate .doc file, apart from the manuscript text.

It must contain the following information:

a) Title in the language of the text, left-aligned and in bold.
b) Translated title, left-aligned and in bold.
c) Full name(s) and surname(s) of the author(s). These should be placed below the title, leaving two spaces and left-aligned. The name and surname of each author should begin with a capital letter, followed by lowercase letters. After the surname and name of each author, a superscript number indicates their affiliation. Different authors should be separated by a comma, following APA format. Below and preceded by the affiliation number, the institution to which they belong should be listed, all left-aligned. If the authors share the same affiliation, it should be indicated only once. If the affiliations differ, they should be specified for each author. The email address, postal address, and phone number of the corresponding author should be provided, identified with an asterisk. For example:

Gabriel González1, Alejandro Pérez2
1-National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET).
2-Department of Accounting, Faculty of Economic Sciences. National University of Río Cuarto.

It is also important to provide the ORCID identifier number for each author. If they do not have one, it can be generated for free at orcid.org.

  • Corresponding author: email address.

d) Below and under the title "Funding," the source(s) of funding for the presented work should be indicated.

Manuscript Presentation

The manuscript must be submitted without the data included in the cover page (except for the title). All manuscripts must be prepared using a word processor such as Word, Open Word, or compatible software. The page size should be A4 (29.7 x 21 cm), in portrait orientation, with 3 cm margins on the left and right and 2.5 cm margins at the top and bottom. The font should be Times New Roman, size 12, with double spacing and justified alignment. Lines must be numbered continuously from the first page of the manuscript. Pages should be numbered consecutively at the bottom center.

All text (including the title) should begin at the left margin, without centering. Use only regular font, avoiding block capitals, bold or italic letters, underlined text, etc., except for the allowed forms of emphasis.

The article should consist of a title (in Spanish or Portuguese, and its translation into English), abstract (in Spanish or Portuguese, and its translation into English), keywords (in Spanish or Portuguese, and their translation into English), introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions, and bibliography. Short communications, technical notes, and case reports will follow a similar structure, without dividing the text into sections.

Title

It should be written in sentence case and should correspond to the article's topic, being as concise as possible. It should be in Spanish or Portuguese, with its translation into English (in bold).

Abstracts

The highlights of the objectives, materials and methods, results, and conclusions should be included. The maximum length is 250 words for original articles and literature reviews, and 200 words for short communications, technical notes, and case reports. Abbreviations should not be used, except for units of measurement. The abstract in Spanish or Portuguese should appear first, followed by the keywords; then the abstract in English, followed by the corresponding keywords in the same language.

Keywords

Below the title "Keywords," list up to five words that will be used to index the article. It is advisable that some of these words are not taken from the title. Each keyword should be separated by a comma.

Body of the Article

Sections: For research articles and research advances, it is recommended to divide the text into four sections: a) Introduction, b) Methodology, c) Results and discussion, and d) Conclusions. Other contributions may divide the text into sections as the authors see fit. The mentioned structure, while recommended, is not mandatory.

Tables: They should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. They should be referenced from the text (Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Each table should have its own title at the top. Each column should also have a title. Tables should not exceed one page in length. If necessary, they should be divided into multiple tables, repeating the headers in each one. The table design should consider the journal's visualization formats (vertical, rectangular) across different platforms.

Figures: All illustrations (photographs, diagrams, graphs, drawings, etc.) should be designated as figures and numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals. They should be referenced from the text (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). Figures should be inserted into the text as image files. Figures should be presented in JPG files with no more than 120 dpi and of good quality.

Acknowledgments: These are not mandatory. If included, they should be placed at the end of the text, before the bibliographic references, and should be brief. Authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permissions to mention the names of individuals or organizations they believe deserve recognition.

Abbreviations: Abbreviations should be clarified the first time they are used in the text, for example: United Nations (UN). After this clarification, only the abbreviation should be used. It is recommended not to overuse them.

Units of measurement: Metric system units should be used. Units should be indicated with the symbols accepted by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures, for example: cm, m, h, g, kg (centimeter, meter, hour, gram, kilogram). Note that these are symbols, not abbreviations, so they do not end with a period.

Numbers: Every three digits, counting from the right, a period should be used as a separator (2,284, 13,527). A comma should be used to indicate decimal numbers (17.2 or 3,543.8). It is recommended to indicate only one decimal (35.7 and not 37.68).

Endnotes: These should be used only when absolutely necessary. They should not be used to cite bibliography. Notes cannot be added to the title, author, or subtitles, as these texts are marked as article metadata.

Textual citations: When direct quotes do not exceed 40 words, they should be included in the text within quotation marks. If the textual reference exceeds 40 words, it should be separated into a new paragraph with a left indent (block paragraph) and without quotation marks. The paragraph should start on a new line and be double-spaced from the previous one. It is recommended not to overuse this type of citation. More information can be found in the Citation and Reference Guide.

Bibliographic citations: The guidelines of the aforementioned guide, based on the style proposed by the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition or higher, should be followed. This citation style can be consulted in the Citation and Reference Guide. It is recommended not to overuse this type of citation and to include only those necessary to support an argument.

Emphasis: Except for the cases indicated in this section, emphasis (block capitals, underlining, bold, italics, etc.) will not be accepted. The only allowed cases are the following:

  • Section titles (Introduction, Methodology, Results and discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgments, References, or others): bold font.

  • Subsection titles: regular font.

  • Terms defined in the text, neologisms, or terms in a foreign language: italic font.

Bibliographic References

For the preparation of references, Fundamentos follows the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition or higher standards. The APA citation style can be consulted in the Citation and Reference Guide (UNLP). The reference list should be included at the end of the article and must include everything cited in the article, and only what has been cited in the article.

Manuscript Submission

Files should be named according to the format: surname of the first author_year.doc. Example: Pérez Arboleda_2021.doc.

The submission must be made through the journal's OJS system. Authors must register their names and upload the article as indicated in the steps on the journal's website. IMPORTANT: Once the article has been submitted through the OJS system, it must be notified via email to the Editor of Fundamentos at jmunt@fce.unrc.edu.ar.
